Ice Cube rides on Spike TV and tour
Posted on March 26, 2006
Acclaimed actor and musician, Ice Cube, will host and perform at Spike TV's second annual AutoRox, the only nationally televised awards show honoring and celebrating America's passion for the automobile. For the first time ever, Ice Cube will perform live his new singles "Chrome and Paint" and "Why We Thugs" off of his forthcoming solo LP, "Laugh Now, Cry Later" which will be released on June 6, 2006.
The 90-minute show, to be taped on April 7 at the Fremont Experience in downtown Las Vegas, will air TUESDAY, APRIL 18 (10:00-11:30pm ET/PT) on Spike TV. The star-studded homage to cars will feature categories including Best Luxury Car, Hottest Exotic, Convertible, Sports Car, SUV's, and others.
The 2006 show has moved from Los Angeles to the exciting streets of downtown Las Vegas. A panel of over 30 high-ranking auto industry executives, designers, media and celebrities will vote on the deserving nominees, to be announced shortly. One industry icon, chosen for their major contributions to the automotive world, will be recognized. The 2005 recipient was legendary racer and car builder Carroll Shelby.
Dave Broome ("Tsunami Aid: A Concert of Hope," "The Radio Music Awards") and Casey Patterson, Senior Vice President of Event Production and Talent, Development, Spike TV, are Executive Producers for AutoRox. Allen Newman serves as Executive in Charge of Production and Ryan Polito is Director.
"AutoRox will celebrate guys' lifelong love affair with chrome, wheels and gears," said Patterson. "Our host Ice Cube is truly passionate about cars and where better than Vegas to make this an all out celebration with big musical performances and the hottest cars of the year."
Spike TV is home to many of cable's top-rated auto-related programming as part of its "Power Block" hosted by Courtney Hanson, including Horsepower TV, Trucks!, Muscle Car, and Extreme 4X4.
